Greg Barker Minister in charge of the Green Deal

Gregory Barker MP, Minister of State for Energy and Climate Change, has announced that the warranties for Green Deal installations will change. It was purposed that the work be warrantied for the length of the Green Deal loans, up to 25yrs.

Mr Barker is now installing “robust minimum standards” for all work and measures that are installed under the Green Deal.  There was speculation that if they had provided warrantees for boilers, for example, that the costs would have been un-workable. Mr Barker said:

“Use of existing schemes where appropriate will mean that consumers will receive as much protection as is available. Where schemes don’t exist, our proposal to include a 5 year product warranty plus ten years of consequential building damage cover go further than the current industry norm.

“The minimum requirements we are putting in place means the warranty will be of real value to the consumer.” Greg Barker speaking at the Ecobuild conference 20/03/12

Mr Barker expressed the Government’s commitment to the Green Deal and reiterated the promise of £200 million to those who took up the deal early. Mr barker also said that the conditions that Green Deal Providers would have to meet would be eased to help them into the market.  Providers had previously been told they would need security bonds before they could undertake work.
