Key points to remember about the Green Deal

We are getting more and more emails asking detailed questions about the Green Deal so we thought it would be a prudent time to go over some of the key points.

Dates

The Green Deal will start in October 2012. The Government hasn’t been any clearer on what actual dates it means in October or where you will be able to apply.

Insulate

Lots of emails we receive are regarding solar panels and renewable energy. Micro Generation will be available under the Green Deal, however insulation will come first. If you home or business is not correctly insulated micro generation will be lower down the list of the advised improvements. Roofs and lofts will be the first places to be inspected and then walls windows and doors.

Make sure your home has adequate insulation and you are more likely to be eligible for micro power generation.

Money

There will be £10,000 for home owners to invest in their home improvements, business owners will have to wait to see how much is going to be avilible through the Green Deal.  There will be no up-front costs to the home owners.

The loans can be paid back through your energy bills over a number of years, of your choosing, a maximum of 25 years has been set.
