Green Deal Launches Today!
The long wait is finally over and we can all celebrate the Green Deal being launched in the UK! You must have read the newspapers today or heard endless ministers on TV and radio talking about the Green Deal being launched in the UK… or like me you heard…nothing.
This is what people meant by a soft launch, a very, very soft launch.
There is how ever good news. I decided to phone up a few of the Green Deal Providers and see if I could get a Green Deal assessment done on my house. The general answer I got was ‘yes we can do an assessment but no work will happen until January 2013’.
The Providers I rang so far have said that I have to pay for the assessment myself (about £120-£140) but I have no obligation to take out the works and I get to keep the assessment. I’m still trying to work out if I can then take your assessment to a different provide and have them implement the findings.
I’m going to write a separate piece about each provider and what they said to me in regard to getting a Green Deal Assessment. I’ll keep you posted.
Hi,
Iam really disappointed to heard this. I have to pay for the assessment. Probably the reason I am interested in green deal, ‘coz I havent got enough money…. Otherwise I just simply pay for it from my pocket.
A lot of Green Deal Providers will offer the Assessment for FREE. We shall have to wait and see what offers and incentives are being rolled out by the larger companies.
Like zsolt, I can’t afford to pay an assessor and whilst some may offer it free eventually I had hoped that by the launch date there would be something more concrete about how to get this. I’m facing another cold winter it seems.
It is disappointing and it is unfortunate that the work can’t get done before winter really bites. There are cheap options to look at with regards to draught proofing measures that you can install now.
